“Amber Alert” trended late tonight after a significant number of iPhone users with the iOS 6 operating system received the message. Many Twitter users were awoken by the loud sound; a disturbing number of iPhone owners didn’t know what the nationwide warnings of abducted/missing children even were. Even more were unaware that their iPhones carried the alerts. For the ignorant: The messages are part of a new national cell phone emergency alert system “relying on Broadcast SMS to push notifications to smartphones for weather threats, Amber alerts and Presidential alerts. The system went live in New York City at the end of 2011, and should be live in most of the United States.”

My iphone just gave me a heart attack when it screamed an emergency siren for an Amber Alert. #drill #bigbrother #iphone

— Jess Robinson (@BaseballJess) January 14, 2013

Was incredibly confused and mad that I woke up from a loud ring from my phone but then I saw it was an Amber Alert. That stuff is important.

— Josh Martin (@JMartgb) January 14, 2013

Yes, it is.

We’re glad at least one person took the initiative to find out more about the missing child and post the information:

With missing children, every second matters. Every informed citizen and every alert pair of eyes matters.

Just got the Amber alert: there’s a missing two year old thought to be in serious danger. Everyone send prayers.

Denise is safe. What a relief!

Jon Bernthal finds life after ‘The Walking Dead’

Fans of AMC’s hit zombie series, “The Walking Dead,” were stunned when Shane (Jon Bernthal) was killed by Rick (Andrew Lincoln) in Sunday’s episode. Today we learned Bernthal already has a new job lined up as Joe Teague for TNT’s new series “L.A. Noir.”

It’s official: The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal is reuniting with former showrunner Frank Darabont.

The actor has landed the lead role in Darabont’s TNT cop pilot, L.A. Noir, the network can confirm now that Bernthal has been killed off AMC’s breakout zombie series on last night’s heavily hyped episode.

Darbont, who was instrumental in adapting the zombie drama from Robert Kirkman’s comics, was ousted and replaced as showrunner in July, just days after representing the series at San Diego Comic-Con. His sudden departure took many, including Bernthal, by surprise, particularly given the commercial success of the show.
